Important: your Scanmarker does not pair through your device's Bluetooth settings menu. Connection always happens inside the Scanmarker app. If you've been searching for the scanner in your Bluetooth device list — that's the most common mistake, and the steps below will get you connected.
First, on any platform: turn the scanner on by pressing the transparent tip down against a flat surface for about 3 seconds. The lights turn on, with the blue light blinking while it waits to connect. When a connection is established, the blue light turns steady.
Windows
- Download and install the Scanmarker desktop application from scanmarker.com/services.
- Plug in the Bluetooth dongle.
- Open the Scanmarker application.
- Turn on the scanner (press the tip down for 3 seconds). The blue light turns steady when connected.
Mac
Bluetooth works on Mac models from 2012 or later. The scanner will not appear in the Mac Bluetooth menu — connect like this:
- Remove the dongle (Macs connect without it).
- Restart your computer — this step matters; it makes sure everything is set correctly after installation.
- Open the Scanmarker application.
- Turn on the scanner. The blue light turns steady when connected.
Also allow Bluetooth access for Scanmarker in System Preferences → Privacy & Security → Privacy → Bluetooth: click the lock icon to allow changes, then check the box next to Scanmarker.
Android
Requires Android 5 or higher.
- Install the Scanmarker app from the Play Store, and allow all permissions during installation. If you didn't, uninstall and reinstall the app and allow them this time.
- Turn on Location on your device before searching for the scanner (needed the first time only).
- Open the app and turn on the scanner.
- Tap Start — the app searches for your Scanmarker.
- Tap your scanner's name when it appears under Select Scanner.
iPhone and iPad
- Install the Scanmarker app from the App Store.
- Open the app and turn on the scanner.
- Tap Start — the app searches for your Scanmarker.
- Tap your scanner's name when it appears under Select Scanner.
Still not connecting?
- Make sure the scanner isn't already connected to another device (a phone, tablet, or computer nearby). It can only hold one connection at a time.
- Android: go to your phone Settings (not the app) → Apps → Scanmarker → Force stop, then Clear data, then reopen the app and reconnect.
- Windows/Mac: restart the computer, then reopen the Scanmarker application before turning the scanner on.
- Check your device is supported: see Compatible Devices.
If none of this works, submit a request and tell us your Scanmarker model, the device and operating system you're connecting to, and which app you're using (mobile, desktop, or app.scanmarker.com) — we'll take it from there.
