Installation & Connection Quick instructions:
Download: Inside the web app app.scanmarker.com, click the apps button (left side menu) and follow the prompts to download the local installation file for your operating system.
Install: Open the downloaded file and follow the installation setup wizard. Once completed, the desktop / ScanToExternal shortcut icon will appear on your desktop.

Connect & Pair:
Open the desktop application login with your email and click ‘Connect’ to pair your pen. (The desktop tray icon will turn from grey to orange once successfully connected).
Place your cursor in your target external document (e.g., MS Word) and begin scanning!
⚠️ Important Note: The desktop software is optimized strictly for high-speed local text entry (OCR). Translation features are not supported on the desktop app—you must use the Web Portal if you require translation.
For Desktop App (ScanToExternal) Issues:
The Tray Icon Stay Grey: If the icon doesn't turn orange, close the app completely from your system tray (bottom right on Windows / top right on Mac) and re-open it as an Administrator.
Account Sync: Ensure you are logged into the desktop app using the exact same email address registered on app.scanmarker.com.

Quick Start:
Access: Open your Chrome or Edge browser and navigate to app.scanmarker.com.
Register / Log In: Create a new account and verify your email, or log into your existing account.

Connect Your Scanner:
Plug in your scanner using the provided USB cable (or pair via Bluetooth if using the Scanmarker Air).
Select 'Pen Scanner 2.0' from the browser pop-up window and click 'Connect'.
Configure Settings: Choose your preferred scanning hand (Right/Left) and target scanning language.
Core Web Features:
Read Live & Selected: Listen to text read aloud in real-time or playback selected text.
Full Translation Suite: Translate scanned text into over 140 languages.
Export & Share: Save your work as a PDF, Word file, JPEG, or MP3 file, or share directly via Email, Google Drive, or Facebook.
Document Upload: Import and run OCR on existing
.doc,.pdf,.txt, and.jpegfiles.
For Web App Connection Issues:
Check Browser Permissions: Ensure you have granted Chrome or Edge permission to access your USB or Bluetooth devices when prompted.
Re-plug and Refresh: Disconnect the USB cable, refresh your browser tab (
F5orCtrl+R/Cmd+R), and plug the cable back into a different USB port.

Top Scanning Tips
Angle: Hold the pen scanner at a fluid 30–60 degree angle.
Alignment: Place the clear tip of the scanner slightly before the beginning of the line, keeping the text centered within the tips.
Motion: Move across the page in a fluid, steady, and relatively quick motion without applying excessive downward pressure.
Hardware Capabilities: Scans text sizes between 6–24 pt at an optimal speed of 10 cm/sec (capturing a full line of text within one second).
Use the scanning ruler for better results.

Q: Can I use the desktop app on my Chromebook? A: No. Chromebooks do not support local desktop installations. Chromebook users must use the Web App at app.scanmarker.com.
Q: Does the scanner work on digital screens or only on paper? A: Scanmarker pens are optimized for reading printed text on white paper. Scanning text from reflective computer screens, tablets, or phones is not supported.
Q: How do I switch languages? A: In the Web App, look for the language dropdown at the top of the interface.
